We will be putting the track together Friday, January 20 at 7:00 - we'll be moving it from the Scout Hut to the Fellowship Hall and assembling it. Everyone is welcome to help - there are advantages to coming to help:

  • after the track is assembled, you can test your car on the track
  • [IMPORTANT] the official race scales will be there to weigh your car
  • Guys with tools and glue will be around for last minute adjustments to your car

Click here for the pinewood derby registration form - to save time Saturday morning, you can print it and fill out the identifying information before you get there. (If you cannot print it, we will have registration forms there the day of the race.)

Please fill out one registration form for each car racing (for example: if the scout, a sibling and a parent are all entering a car, there would be three registration forms). You need only fill in the following items:

  • Racer's Name
  • Car's Color - a general description of the car for identification purposes
  • Car's Name - make up a name, you can have fun with this ;)
  • Den - Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos I, Webelos II, Sibling, Adult
If your car has a number on it, you can fill in the Car's Number field, but it is not required.

Registration fees: $3 per scout and any sibling under 18. $5 for adults. There will be concessions (hot dogs, chips, drinks, candy) available for purchase throughout the day, so you may want to bring some cash. The race will probably last till noon. If you would like to donate some items for us to sell in the concession stand, please bring them to the track assembly on Friday or on race morning.

** Cars must be registered by 9:00 AM so the race can begin on time! ** Cars will have to be weighed by the judges at registration. Please get their early to allow for weigh-in, and in case last minute work has to be done to the car. The fellowship hall will be open by 8:30, we hope to have it open by 8:00.

** Once the car is weighed and registered, only race officials will be allowed to handle it until after the race! ** Only exception is in a case where a wheel or other part of the car comes off during a race - small repairs may be made with a judge's oversight.

Pack Meeting and Parade News (December)

Pack meeting Tuesday 12/13 at 6:30 PM. Remember to bring items for TEAM and to sign up to bring a food item (see Elizabeth's email from Friday). This is a Christmas themed pack meeting and we will have gifts for the scouts.

T-Shirts are ready, so if you ordered t-shirts, make sure to bring payment - make checks out to BSA Pack 29 Trussville.

The Christmas parades were a lot of fun. Our Irondale parade float won third place for best themed entry, and our Trussville/Whoville (Grinch) float was a crowd favorite in the Trussville parade. Thanks to everyone for their donations and hard work. Check out our pictures on our facebook page at www.facebook.com/Pack29

The Pack meeting on 12/13 will be the last meeting of the year. We will talk a bit about Pinewood Derby coming up in January and we will pass out the rules so you can work on the cars over Christmas break. Meetings will resume for most of the pack on January 10th with a Pinewood Derby Work Day. Webelos check with your den leader, you may start back on January 9th.

Have a safe and happy holiday!

Parade News

We are in two Christmas parades this year, both on Saturday December 10th. I would like as many scouts as possible at both parades, so we can represent both communities well. Parents and siblings are invited to join us in the parades as well.

The Irondale parade lines up at 9:00 AM at the Irondale Community School. Parade starts at 10:00, probably won't last more than 45 minutes. The parade theme is a 50's Rock and Roll Christmas - we will have themed banners on the trailer but the scouts just need to wear their uniform (unless you have some 50's gear). They can wear Santa hats if they would like (good ones are at the dollar store). You may want to bring a blanket to use while waiting and riding. Irondale Community School is at 16th Street and Crestwood, and there is limited parking. We won't know what position we are in the parade till that morning, just go to the school and find us from there.

The Trussville parade lines up at 1:00 and starts at 3:00. Please be there by 1:00 so we can decorate the trailer. We are going with a Grinch themed float, we will be TrussWhoville Pack 29 for the day. The Grinch will be riding on the hood of the truck and his dog will be up front. The scouts need to be in uniform, but we would like for the scouts (and parents) to wear Santa hats. The Dollar store has good ones, remember the theme and get a funny one if you can. We will be lining up in position 75 on Cherokee Street - that's the road that runs between the football stadium and the baseball fields (toward the parks and senior center). Depending on the weather, you may want to bring blankets. I plan to bring hot chocolate for the scouts and siblings.

Hope to see you all there!
